Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty is advising parents to limit their children's use of cellphones.

Toronto Public Health has issued an advisory telling parents to take precautions to minimize their children's exposure to radio frequency waves from cellphones.

It says research on the long-term effects of radio frequency waves on children is limited, and warns that scientists don't know what the health effects may be.

McGuinty says he's no expert, but as a parent he's advising limiting kids' cellphone use until more scientific evidence proves the phones are safe.

Toronto public health officials say children under eight should use land lines whenever they can and should use a cellphone only for essential purposes.

They also advise that older children and teens should limit their cellphone use whenever possible.
